Cancer SurvivorNortheast Ohio residents were treated to a remarkable story of perseverance and inspiration October 4th. Nathan Mumford of Cleveland Heights had his story shared on WKYC Channel 3 News.

Mumford is only 36 years old and has already battled and beaten three different forms of cancer – each at different times in the course of his life.

He battled Hodgkin’s Lymphoma before he reached his teenage years.

Next he was hit in his mid-20s with Leukemia. Doctors shared that his form of cancer had a 100% chance of mortality. This is obviously nothing anyone wants to hear. Nathan; however was a fighter and didn’t give up. He underwent a then-experimental cord blood stem cell treatment that eventually cured him of the disease!

“I had a trial treatment, which was called the umbilical cord blood transplant and it saved my life.”

Cancer was not yet done with this resilient young man. He was then diagnosed with colon cancer in his 30s. Again, he defeated the disease.

A Long Road to Recovery

Nathan shared that his mother died 10-years ago; she too was taken by cancer. Rather than give up, Nathan chose to make his loss a point of education and inspiration for others by starting the Karen E. Mumford Cancer Foundation.
